LAMBORGHINI HURACAN REVEALED

With the official release of photo´s and confirmation of the name Huracan, we can only hope that this means we may not have to suffer another teaser showing the three clueless lads who are currently ensconced in the Lamborghini factory in the third clip released this week. Sadly we think that there are more to come.

The successor to the Gallardo, Lamborghini’s best-selling model ever, is upon us at last. It took weeks of rumours and spy photos, and finally a host of leaked images, but here it is: the Huracán LP 610-4.

As with the Gallardo´s debut alongside the Murciélago, the Huracán arrives as a sort of ‘Aventador Lite’, toning down the wild styling for a more conventional but still iconically Lamborghini look.              

The Huracán boasts the usual assortment of jet-like lines, its design dominated by gaping intakes and angry little headlights that won’t be confined to the rear-view mirror for long.

Lamborghini sold more than 14,000 Gallardo supercars over the course of its ten-year run, and there is little about the Huracán’s look that suggests it won’t better that achievement.

But if beauty is only skin deep, there’s little underneath to hold the Huracán back from becoming a new favourite among the well-heeled.

As expected, the Huracán is driven by a naturally-aspirated 5.2 litre V10 engine sending power to the all-wheel-drive system through a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.

That’s right, no manual with this one, and you probably won’t see a manual Lamborghini again.

The big V10 produces 610 horsepower – hence the LP 610-4 name – which translates to a very healthy 448kW, available at 8250rpm. Torque is rated at 560Nm, coming online at 6500rpm.

Lamborghini promises a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds, forming the first portion of a 9.9 second run to 200km/h.

Top speed? Lamborghini says the 1422kg Huracán will make it a little beyond 325km/h. Of course, it’s a little heavier with fuel and a driver – it’ll need both of those – but the heads at SantÁgata are confident.

The Huracán isn’t especially thirsty, either, if Lamborghini is to be believed. Thanks to its Stop & Start system, the supercoupe lists fuel use at just 12.5 l/100km.

Standard features with the Huracán include carbon ceramic brakes and magneto-rheologic dampers, all working together with Strada, Sport and Corsa driving modes.

The Huracán will make its official world premiere at March’s Geneva Motor Show. Delivery to the first customers is planned for the northern Spring of 2014. Australian timing, and price, is still to be confirmed.

Oh, and, for the record: Huracán is Spanish for ‘hurricane’, but it is also the name of an ancient Mayan god of thunder and – you guessed it – a fighting bull, this one recorded in Alicante history way back in 1879.
